Shirley Kiss

Shirley Ann Kiss of Atco NJ, formally of Edgewater Park, passed away Tuesday August 13, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was 70 years old.
Shirley was born February 12, 1943 in Burlington New Jersey. She was a graduate from Burlington City High school and beauty school. Shirley worked with the handicapped and elderly. She had a gift for helping people who were always less fortunate than herself. In her life she held many jobs but never was there anything more important to Shirley as being a mother, grandmother, and wife.
She was a devoted mother, who was always there for her children and grandchildren. Shirley said the best part of being a Mom was becoming a grandmother because you could now be the hero. For Shirley, there was no better place to be than with her family.
Shirley was so full of life and was always willing to try new things. She was an avid reader, painter and gardener. She loved the beach, nature and was always up for a good kayaking trip with her grandchildren.
She was a great friend to all who knew her. She loved having parties and you would never go hungry at Shirley’s house. She could bake one of the best pies, and her cast iron skillet recipes were renowned.
Shirley was preceded by her loving husband, Emery whom she called Jimmy.
She is survived by three children and their spouses: Jacqueline Barron (Michael) of Springfield, Wendy Rapos (Andrew) of Hamilton and Robert (Amy) of Delanco, her loving grandchildren: Samantha, Ryan, Katie, Molly and Jonathan. She is also survived by her mother, Annabelle Stecker of Burlington, her brother, Harry Stecker (Adeline) of Burlington, her sister, Mary Thomas (Darrell) of Evesham, her many nieces and nephews as well as by her cat Arnold, who loved her and tolerated everyone else.
Come celebrate Shirley’s 70 wonderful years (February 12, 1943-August 13, 2013) Thursday from 6 PM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro St., Riverside where the service will be at 8 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation Lockbox #1352, PO Box 8500, Philadelphia, PA 19178-1352.

I met Shirley about ten years ago thru her daughter, Wendy. The times that I had shared with Shirley were usually during some sort of family gathering, a graduation party, birthday celebration or just a cook out by her pool. Shirley seemed to shine when she was surrounded by her family while in the midst of the Festivities . Shirley was an excellent cook, and was a gracious hostess, there was no-way you could ever go hungry while she entertained .I enjoyed her sometimes dry but funny sense of humor. Just a great LADY … I am so glad to have had the opportunity to have met her . My thoughts and LOVE go out to all of her family at this difficult time.
PS. HEAVEN JUST BECAME A NICER PLACE!

Shirley and I were good friends in high school. Although our life paths moved in different directions, I never forgot the chuckles that we shared nor her wonderful personality and smile. I recall visiting with her in her first apartment after her first child was born. Sincere condolences to all of her family! May she rest in peace!
