Samuel D Cama

Sam wore many hats during his working years. He was a barber with his dad, a restaurateur- Our Dad’s Place in Paulsboro, a special officer for Thorofare, a Gloucester County sheriff’s officer, and his last and most favorite, a back yard farmer with grandson, Kevin. In retirement Sam became a full time Pop Pop going to little league games, dance recitals, and beach combing with the kids. rnSurf fishing in Brigatine was where he caught the “big ones.” Other hats Sam wore sported Phillies and Eagles logos -win or lose he cheered them on. He followed NASCAR and rooted the hardest when Jeff Gordon was behind the wheel.rnHe was an old car buff. If a car show was advertised Sam was there reminiscing his ‘57 and ‘63 Chevies.rnSam graduated from Paulsboro High. In the year after graduation he happened to be outside the school when a young lady caught his eye. That pretty girl was Donna Hartzell. They have spent the last 44 years together enjoying their family: son, Samuel, Jr.(Cathleen) daughter, Lisa Murdock (Larry); Grandchildren: Brittany Ford, Rachel and Kevin Murdock; Great grandson, Joseph Harker. I can vividly see him in the kitchen and at your bar in your Clarksboro home and by the pool or in front of the tv watching the game in his Woolwich home. Sam was a true friend and co-worker. I had the pleasure to first cross Sam’s path a a youngster growing up in Paulsboro and a customer of the barber shop. Later on, I worked at the Locker Plant and handed off many cases of burgers to “Our Dads”, or delivering appliances to the restaurant or the house. Several years later, our paths would once again cross at the Sheriff’s Department, working the same shift for several years, until my departure. Again, we crossed paths when Sam and Donna moved to what was then little old Woolwich Twp.Sam would light up any room he entered. He was a genuine caring person, who will be missed by so many. Rest in peace my friend.

The Camas were my second family growing up. I can remember going to the truck beach where Mr. C was always fishing, then going back to the shore house & sitting on the porch swing w/ Lisa as Mr. Cama laid on the lounge chair listening to the Oldies. He always made me & others laugh and will surely be missed by many. Keeping you all in my thoughts.rnrnJulie G
