Robert Hurff Hunt went to be with his maker on June 5, 2017, age 93. Bob was a lifelong resident of Logan Twp. He worked with his father on one of his grandfather’s two farms in Center Square until 1943 when he moved to the 200+ acre farm on Oldman Creek Rd. He later bought that farm and at one time had over 100 acres of asparagus.
Farming, family and hunting were his passions. He would fatten 60 steers each winter and also worked at Chrysler Assembly Plant in Delaware to help make ends meet.
Bob was 8 years old when he became a member of the Center Square United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the class of 1941 Swedesboro High School.
In 1954 he married his childhood sweetheart from Swedesboro, Betty Gold daughter of Leo T. and Myrtle Gold. He Started a life with Betty in January 1954 that has lasted 63 years. In 1963 Bob sold the farm and took a job at Monsanto Chemical Co. retiring after 25 years of service, many years never missing a day. His love of land and hunting took him on many trips starting in 1938. He hunted with the Hunt Hunting Club in the Pine Barrens. Their camp then was WW1 surplus tents. They built a permanent camp but it burnt down in 1963. He then joined the Antler Club of Woodbury where he has been an honorary member for many years and the oldest member, bagging in the 2015 season, according to the old timers, the largest rack in club history.
Bob was a quiet, unopinionated man who was liked and respected by all who knew him well and his dry sense of humor.
His hunting took him and life long friends to Nova Scotia, Maine and Pa. for many years and many hours of stories of deer hunting.
Bob has also worked the last 20 years on his sons’ farm where he has a reputation for exterminating those peskey groundhogs.
Bob was born on 12-13-23 to Foster V. Hunt Sr. and Edith Dawson Hurff. He was predeceased by a sibling, Foster V. Hunt, Jr. of West Virginia, one step daughter, Linda M. Learch, a daughter, Jayne L. Misero. He is survived by his wife, Betty G. Hunt, a step daughter, Susan and Alfred Morgan of Bridgeville, DE, a son David R. and Alisha Hunt of Logan Twp., two sons in law, Dominic Misero of Quinton and Billy Learch of Virginia, 8 grandchildren: Jill, Justin, Adam, Rebekah, Charlotte, Foster, Cooper and Parker.
Come celebrate 93 wonderful years Saturday, June 10 from 9 am at Daley Life Celebration Studio where a 10:30 service will be held. Burial Lake Park Cemetery. Donations to NRA (donate.nra.org) will be appreciated.
