Rita Florek

(1945 - 2015)

The name, Rita, means Pearl, Child of Light: fitting for a person who spread light and happiness wherever she went. Rita loved life was funny, loving and always positive. You’d never hear her speak an ill word. She never saw any reason for being negative; her glass was perpetually half full. She tapped her feet to the music of the 50’s and 6o’s especially Frankie Avalon. Her favorite song reminded us that Charlie Brown, he was a clown. Day trips with her sisters were a joy, with Rita always saying something silly to get a chuckle. In family card games Rita was honest to a fault; her sister Mary, not so much. And she always entertained her nieces and nephews in battles over board games, making faces to amuse the kids. She loved a good time so it’s hard to believe that 2014 was the first time in her life that Rita dressed up for Halloween as Zombie.

She was a devoted wife to her late husband, John; mother of Shawn and grandmother of two. She was a special sister to Mary Peters (Butch), Peter Lubas and Dolores Fernandez (Lou).

Come celebrate 69 great years Friday, November 13 from 6 to 8 pm at Daley Life Celebration Studio, Swedesboro. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10am Saturday, November, 14 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Linden, NJ. Entombment Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ

In the short time that I got to know Rita felt like a lifetime of knowing her to me. Rita was the most loving person who would always smile, say hi and laugh when I would kabitz around with her. I’ll never forget the Halloween party at sister Cookies home when after being there a couple of hours and sitting with Rita a few times, I got up and did a costume change out on the driveway. I came back into the house as a totally different Goblin and sat down besides Rita. Everyone now was looking at me wondering who this person was because everyone that was invited to the party was already there for hours. I started my routine again messing with Rita and everyone was now getting a little bit more concerned and wondering who I was. After a short time of teasing Rita, she whispered to me that she recognized me by the familar smell of my body. We sure fooled them all Rita, our little secret. Going to miss her and my flirting with her. RIP our Rita. Xo
