Richard J Helpap

If you found yourself in need you could always rely on Pap. It didn’t matter if he got a call to install a hot water heater, fix an AC unit or help a friend move, he’d think nothing of dropping everything to help. Most people don’t feel like shoveling one driveway, but when the bad weather came Richard tended plowed out yards in Riverside…then Florence…then Clementon. When he had time to himself he was always found fishing or hunting. Coming back with a trophy catch was nice, but it was just as nice to relax in the outdoors. When his ears weren’t filled with the sounds of nature, they were tuned into his Harley. Whether it was Bike Week at Sturgis and Daytona or just a drive around the neighborhood he always preferred two wheels instead of four. rnrn Richard is survived by his wife, Joanne of Riverside, his loving mother and stepfather Florence and Russell McCammitt of Florence, sisters: Lisa Helpap and Danielle Gent, his stepbrothers: Michael, David and Patrick McCammitt, his stepsister Linda McCammitt, his grandmother, Florence Lydon as well as by many aunts, uncles and cousins.rn Relatives and friends are invited to call from 7-9 PM Tuesday at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at 8:45. Interment private. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Disabled American Veterans PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or to any organization helping those suffering with depression.rnrn

I will always cherish the 6 years I had with Rich and the friendship I maintained afterwards. Words cannot express how deeply saddened I am. I send my love and condolences to Lisa, Danielle, and Florence who I know are all having an exceptionally hard time with this tragedy, along with all of us, the so many others who truly loved Rich. Rest in Peace Rich, you will always be fondly remembered and sincerely missed. Hopefully, you are with our Smokey dog and cat and your Scrappy and that brings you happiness and peace.

I think I can speak for all of Rich’s friends when I say that words cannot describe just how much Rich will be missed. Pap’s devotion to his family and friends was his first priority and he was always just a phone call away when needed. Pap was a true friend to all of us…always there to lend a hand, go fishing with or simply just hang out. He will always be remember as a “great guy” and I consider myself priviledged to have been so close to someone who truly exemplified the meaning of the word “friend”. Rest in Peace Pap…you’ll always be with us all.

Rich was one of the kindest people that I have ever known. Always willing to be there for you, yet never asking anything in return. We have all been truely blessed just to have had the honor of calling him our friend. He will be missed by many.

Richie was always there for me as he was for all his friends. He helped me through one of the hardest times of my life and was so good to my Danny during that time. He was loyal and kind friend. My heart aches and he will be missed by me and so many others. I Love you Richie and I will see you again until then RIP.

I remember fishing for 12 hours straight one day for bass and catfish. Going to a.c. A.d him winning 500.00 with danny. Coming home from work knowing he had a good meal. Riding our motorcycles together. We spent most of our time fishing and having a great time. Going up to uncle eds and outfishing him. He taught me how to cast a baitcaster reel which I mastered and fish with lures. My children loved him also, tells you what a great guy he was. Do anything for ya. It was a great couple of years, I will miss you always, the voice you made talking to our dogs. I loved you for who you are, a great guy. Love you always, and I will see you soon.

I haven’t seen Rich since high school graduation in 1985 but would recognize him if I passed him on the street. I am so very sorry to learn of his passing away. My thoughts are with his family. Erin Hamlin

Thanks Lisa and Jimmy. I sent you an email. nMarie, I truly understand how you feel.nJack, I have tons of pics of your wedding and other picnics and parties Rich and I attended with you and the rest of his friends. We did have good times.nI had to hold back a lot of what I wanted to say, so as to not cause problems.nBut I loved Rich with all my heart and soul. We were together for 6 years and kept in contact after. He was a very special part of my life for 12 years. There are too many memories to even start mentioning. This is devastating to me, so difficult. Rich is gone and a piece of my heart is with him. He is in a happy place with his dad and the pets and free to fish and ride his motorcycle and finally feel peace that he has not had in the last couple of years. Rich was a wonderful, caring person, he would do anything for anyone. He had so many friends and he touched so many lives in a positive way. I will always love him and never forget him. I will see him again one day, with our Smokeys.

I haven’t seen Rich in many years but will always remember the great times~him always welcoming me and my daughters to his house when I went to visit my best friend, him helping a single mom plow out her house when the snow just wouldn’t stop piling up one horrible winter, always including me for dinners out with him and Shannon when I was single and lonely, his wonderful fondue he made though not something he ate, dealing with the “giggly girls” after a night out and having bagels for us the next morning. It is heartbreaking to think a beautiful soul like Rich is no longer part of our world, he certainly did make the world a better place with his true and honest generosity of self. I am so extremely sorry for the loss of such a wonderful man as Rich. Sending my deepest sympathies to his family for their pain and loss.

To Florence, Lisa, and the entire family. This is a special verse from a friend of mine who lost their little boy. rnrnSomeone said to me, everything happens for a reason, and I said there is no reason that can justify the death of a child, no matter what age. Someone said to me God only gives you as much as you can handle and I said, I am sure that a child who died had been given a bit more than he could handle. rnrnSomeone said it was God’s will and I said, My God does not will children to die. Someone said to me, Your son experienced more love in his 45 years than most people experience in a lifetime, and now I think you are beginning to understand.rnrnMy thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Remember the good times cause memories are the best thing a person can leave us with. rnrnLove to all of you, through this very difficult time.rnrnPS. I remember all the good childhood memories!!!!!!!!!!

My condolences to the family. Rich was with my sister for 6 years so I got to know him. He was a wonderful man. He let my son ride on the back of his motorcycle and my dogs play in his yard with Smokey dog (even though one of them dug holes). He was a giving and loving man. It just breaks my heart that he is gone at such a young age. He will be missed and remembered forever because he left his imprint in many peoples lives.

Richie, there is not a day that goes by that you have not entered my mind- walking by your office is so difficult and your parking spot empty- that’s how I feel that I lost such a great friend and if I was only in work instead of in the hospital. I’ll always wonder now if there was something I could of done to change this day from happening- I will always carry you in my heart and I’ll miss you forever, looking back at our talks when you would come to see me, or walking down the hallway and see your smiling face and me yelling Richieeeeeeeeee, and we would go talk some more- Rest in peace my friend, and thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life!!!Always
