April 19, 1946 – December 5, 2018
Richard was called home to Jesus on December 5, 2018. He is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Sharon (Skanes), of 48 years and his cherished sister, Rosemary (Sheppard) Small (John); brother-in-laws, William (Joan), James (Patricia); sister-in-laws, Cheryl (Nicholas deceased), Dolores (James), Eileen (James deceased), Bernadette (Anthony) and Denise (Tony). He also leaves behind his dear friend and caretaker, Rosemary Moates and his furry kids, Ricco, Cisco, and Gina Rose…not to forget “that darn cat,” Mosey. He was loved by many nieces and nephews, cousins and good friends.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, James H. Sheppard, Sr. and Rosina (Iannacone) Sheppard and brothers, James H., Jr. and Nicholas W.
Richard was a resident of Summerton, S.C. since 2003. He was born in South Philadelphia then moved to Runnemede, NJ as a child and was raised there. He graduated from Triton Regional High School
in 1965 and then entered into the U.S. Navy for four years. He married Sharon in June 1970.
Richard and Sharon resided in Camden County for many years until 1985 when they moved to Cape May before retiring to Summerton, S.C. He retired from the State of New Jersey in 2001 as a Sr. Corrections Officer from Southern State Prison in Millville, NJ.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at:
