Reford Haydon Abernathy

Reford Haydon Abernathy

If it swam, he tried to catch it; Haydon lived to fish. He always kept a rod in his car just in case he happened to come across a pond. If he got lost on the water he didn’t mind. Just gave him more time to fish and explore. Haydon lived life being spontaneous; he had a soft spot for cats and dogs. When he didn’t have a pole in his hand Haydon was probably turning a wrench as a self employed plumber.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Evelyn “Bunnie” Pisel; his children: Dawn, Carolyn (Mathew Morrison) and Eugene “Rocky” (Robin Garrison) Abernathy; step children, Cherilyn (Shawn) McCollum and Robert Pisel; grandchildren, Nadine, Eric, Ryan, Chase, Conner and Derek; his siblings, Lillie (Bill) Trader and Earl (Cheryl) Abernathy; and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Reford and Nancy Abernathy and brothers, Tommy, Oscar and Joe.

Come celebrate 60 fishing years, Friday 1-2 p.m. at Daley Life Celebration Studio, Swedesboro where there will be a service at 2 p.m. followed by a life celebration at 156 N. Virginia Avenue, Carneys Point; family and friends are welcome. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to Miracleformateo.org (282 Shell Rd, Carney’s Point, 08069) will be appreciated.

I will treasure the years of going fishing with pop and Haydon every father’s day! Being very young at the time, I remember Haydon would tap on the end of my pole, to make me think that I had a big one on the line! Captain Joe, dad & Haydon would laugh historical!
