Pelaga Akinskas

Peggy knew that the best fertilizer is the gardener’s shadow. At her home in Riverside she grew the finest African Violets and a never ending supply of vegetables. But when inside she could often be found cooking her Polish delights. Come Christmas Eve, she was always ready with her babka and pierogies. St. Casimir Church was more than a Sunday stop for Peggy. Whether it was the Alter and Rosary Society or lending her cooking skills for the fair, she was always ready to lend a hand. During WWII she took to the role of Rosie the Riveter working in the armory in Philadelphia, but years later she worked locally at Century Mills. rnPeggy was married for 50 years to Stanley Akinskas, who passed away in 1998. She is survived by her brother Clement Yoka of Burlington, her nieces Joanna Kirk or Riverside and Rose Marie Jenkins of Delran as well as many great nieces and nephews.rnCome celebrate Peggy’s 92 years (March 10, 1918-August 20, 2010) at Resurrection Parish, St. Casimir site, Riverside, where Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 10:30 AM. There will be no viewing prior. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery, Riverside. Although Peggy loved flowers, she loved the church more, so memorial gifts may be made to Resurrection Parish PO Box 1099 Delran, NJ 08075. Arrangements by the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside.rn
