Norma Garwood

Norma Garwood

If Norma saw a friend without a smile, she was always fast to give them one of hers. Her sweet nature always had an effect on those around her. But her focus was always on her family. Her grandsons were the light of her life. And not that she had a biased opinion, but in her eyes they could do no wrong. Her house was never a home without a pet, sometimes three or four. Even when the weather was at its worst, she was always up for taking the dogs out to play. Having lived in Delanco until recently, she loved her job at Century Mills in Riverside, working there until it closed. Norma always had a sweet tooth, but knew the best treats were those she could share. Even during her last days, the nurses at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, DE knew that she was always looking to split her cookies with them.rnAs a young woman, Norma was introduced to a young man named Alfred through a friend of the family. It would not be long until they were married. Together they were blessed by their daughter Karen Vietri (Dominick) of Millsboro, DE. And although Alfred passed away in 1972, that void was filled a few years later when she was blessed by her grandsons Nick and Joshua, and again by her great-grandson Jayden. Norma is also survived by her dear friend Linda Czyzwski of Delanco.rnCome celebrate Norma’s 87 wonderful years (12/27/1922-10/23/2010) Saturday from Noon at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at 2 PM. Interment private. Norma loved animals, so in lieu of flowers please send memorial donations to the Burlington County Animal Shelter, 15 Pioneer Blvd, Westampton, NJ 08060.rn

Dear Karen,nI was saddened to hear of your mother’s passing and i wanted to share this with you. I used to live a few doors down from you in the Oakerson’s house. My Dog Boo used to escape every morning and skip over the Caruso’s house to get to your mother. Boo knew what a kind animal lover your mother was. I would look out of the yard and see your mom sitting with Boo on the porch giving her treats. Beside’s her friends Oakie and Mary your mom was one of her favorite’s. My prayers are with you and your family.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So, he put his arms around you & whispered “Come with me.” With tearful eyes I watched and saw you pass away. Although I love you dearly I could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, and hard working hands at rest. ……Go…d broke my heart to prove to me,… he only takes the BEST.

I sit here with many thoughts in my head of just how Kind and Genuine Norma was as a Person, It’s not easy trying to put them all together while trying to say Good bye to someone who was such a Wonderful person. You were a Sweet Lady and Someone I had the Pleasure of knowing in my life time. You will be Greatly missed by all who knew you as a friend. I still have the old Can Opener she gave me many years ago cause I though it was “COOL”. Still have her hand written note attached to it. Norma, You will be missed. God Bless You and someday I hope to meet up with you again. It is so hard sometimes saying Good-bye. Thank You for being part of my life. Bless you.

I was one of the nurses at Beebe who took care of Norma for the last two and a half months of her life. Norma was such a sweet lady. I took care of Norma just several days before her death and felt really blessed to have cared for her in her last moments. Norma was not doing well, the last thing she said to me the first morning of the two days I cared for her was “honey, I love you” as she placed her hand on my face. I will never forget caring for her. Karen, you were very faithful at coming to see her everyday. Started to feel like you were part of the Beebe family. God Bless, Elizabeth RN (orthopedic unit)
