Meddie Beatrice Miles

Meddie Beatrice Miles

She gathered no moss. Her independent and adaptive nature helped make the transition from Mississippi to Riverside a breeze. Although she was fiercely independent and cherished her privacy she was hardly a standoffish person. There were no strangers to Meddie: just friends she hadn’t met. She missed her calling as a drill sergeant, but made up for it as a strict but loving mother. She may have been most at home in the outdoors; there was no better times than when she would charter a boat to fish and crab. Later years found her keeping her mind sharp with all sorts of puzzles. rnShe is survived by her children: Larry of Mississippi and Martha Hotten of Alabama; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her dear companion, Henry Ott.rnCome celebrate 78 great years Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where there will be a 7 p.m. service.rn
