Mary C Folker

The going got tough, Mary got going. Her work ethic was forged as a young girl who was raised on her family’s farm. Widowed at a young age with two small boys, Mary put her nose to the grindstone. She worked as a hostess for the Dutch Inn, for the Swedesboro News, Russo plumbing, SEW Eurodrive and helped her brother at his farm. She provided for her family and fulfilled the role of both parents. Mary was always active at St. Joseph’s and was a lector, Eucharistic Minister, taught CCD, counted the collection, was on the bereavement committee and was financial secretary for the Single Parent Society. rn For the past 30 years she was tax collector in Woolwich Township. She started out part time and did most of the work out of her home. As the township grew, so did the position: her sarcastic sense of humor kept it all in check.rn Her meatballs and bruschetta were to die for. She never used any exact recipe, it was all by feel. In her spare time she enjoyed her grandchildren, Dancing with the Stars, cooking shows, HSN, reading and traveling the world. Among her many adventures were Italy, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.rn Through it all, Mary did it her way.rn She is survived by her sons, “Larry!!!” and “Eddie!!!”; her brother, Alfio (Betty) Cali, 3 grandchildren: Cali, Alexa, and Zachary; many cousins, nieces and nephews and her companion, Howard Sherwood. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Lewis and siblings, Joseph Cali and Sara Featherer.rn Come celebrate 77 great years Tuesday 6-8 pm and Wednesday 8:30 to 9:30 am at Daley Life Celebration Studio, Swedesboro. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday 10 am at St. Joseph Church, Swedesboro. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.rn

Mary and I met 35 years ago when our boys, Sam and Eddie, started school at the Clifford School. We did the usual “mom” things through the years. Took a trip to Disney with the boys and were invited many times to enjoy her pool and spend time together.nnWe went to Phillies games and to Phillies dinners, luncheons and a fashion show with the players as models. What fun we had!nnMary was a very special person. I’ll miss her, “Hello, lady”, when I go to pay our taxes.nnTony and I send our sympathies to Larry, Eddie and to her extended family.

I met Mary almost 6 years ago when Larry brought me over to “Mom’s” for dinner. She always made me feel welcome and I enjoyed spending time at her house. She was a great mother and wonderful Mom-Mom. She will be deeply missed by us all.

My deepest sympathy to your family during this most difficult time. Mary was an angel sent from God for her family and those she came in contact with. She was always very helpful to those that came into the Woolwich tax office and needed her assistance. Allow her memories to fill these rough times and remember her wonderful spirit. May God rest her soul

The loss of Mary is the end of an era in Woolwich Township. There is a void that will never be filled. We,her co-workers, loved her like a second mother. In fact, every year we pitched in and bought her a mother’s day gift. The best days were when she brought in meatballs for lunch. One time, I told her I liked pasta and peas and she made it for me weekly for the next few years. We shared alot of laughs and made alot of memories that will reverberate throughout the municipal building for years to come. Mary-You were the strongest woman I ever met and you set an example for me to follow. I hated being your boss, because everyone knew YOU were really the boss. I love you and will allways miss you.

Mary has been in my life for almost 20 years and I will miss her immensely. Through it all she has always been wonderful to me. She has been an incredible grandmother to Cali & Lexy and the love she has for them could never be mistaken. Cali was named after Mary and the girls always loved to go over Mommom?s and spend time with her every chance they got. I feel so very lucky to have known Mary and have her be such an important part of my life. Mostly, I am lucky that she was my daughters? grandmother. Mary….you will be missed but never forgotten! Love, Chris

We spent a lot of time together since I began working for Woolwich and I am glad I got to know her. Mary and I bonded very quickly and it was like having another grandmother; she was always reminding me that she had socks older than me and what a little pip-squeak I was as a kid at the Dutch Inn breakfasts. From stories about shooting snakes in trees, to her adventures across the world, or something as simple as our award winning “No Recipe” Salsa at the Tomato & Heritage Festival, we were always having fun and laughing. She may be gone, but she will never be forgotten. Always in my memory and my heart. Rest in Peace.

Mary, we will miss you. You were the first person we met when we moved in all those years ago and we’re glad we got to know you. rnrnWhen we worked together on the Tomato Festival, I knew I could depend on you to help wherever you could. I felt we were kindred spirits in a way – you certainly said out loud some of the things I was thinking! rnrnThank you for being you.
