Joyce Stults

Joyce Stults

When an unknown author once remarked “No cowboy was ever faster on the draw than a grandparent pulling a baby picture out of a wallet”, he might well have been talking about Joyce. Regardless of the situation she was always ready to share photos and talk about her granddaughter. And while it’s true that when Niera came into this world a grandmother was born, Joyce had always been that loving with all of her family. By the age of thirteen she’d already taken on many grown up responsibilities after her own mother passed. Later, while raising her daughter on her own she took on the roles of both a mother and a father, and no day was complete unless she was there to see her granddaughter. Her heart was big enough to teach them all how to love. But, she also knew how to have a good time. She loved to dance, and did the jitterbug everywhere from the Steel Pier in AC to when she was washing dishes in her kitchen. This would later give her the opportunity to embarrass her daughter during her teen years and to be dazzled by Niera’s dance recitals. Her younger days included completing a degree in Cosmetology, which she used for many years while working as a stylist. At her home in Delran she was fast to share her many delights from the kitchen, including the recipes. But it was best to arrive hungry, if two were coming Joyce cooked for ten.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Krista Stults and her granddaughter, Niera. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.

“Miss Stults”, as I always knew her, was my neighbor all growing up on Delran. She always had a kind word and a smile, no matter what. She was a huge help for my mom, an emotional rock for her to lean on, and a wealth of wisdom. She was one if the first few people to congratulate my mom when I got pregnant at 17 and to tell her it would be ok. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Joyce was my “best” friend since I was twelve. We didn’t see or talk much in the last 10 years and that breaks my heart but as my daughter told me after Joyce’s passing to remember the good times and be thankful for all the years we had as “best” friends and that’s exactly what I am doing. She made the best cookies and her McJoyce burgers and iced tea were the greatest. She taught me to jitterbug and I smile everytime I think of her flinging me across her livingroom. We became mothers only a few years apart and Joyce was by far the most affectionate, caring and loving mother and in seventh heaven when Krista was born. I have so many memories and I wish I could share them all but it would take pages and pages and hours and hours. We had a wonderful friendship and I am so happy we met back in 1965 and she was such an important part of my life. I will forever love you my dear friend.

How I will always remember Joyce is our times of uncontrollable laughing . Visiting Pat in Georgia together were vacations to remember. What one of us did not get into the other did. I will always hold our times together in my heart .. and smile.

I read the obituary about the loss of your loved one and I
    extend my sincere condolences.
Death is truly an enemy but there is comfort in the Bible
that “God will actually swallow up death forever and
certainly wipe the tears from all faces.” Isaiah 25:8
Hold onto the beautiful memories of Joyce and continue
to have the love and support from family and friends.

I remember Joyce from Riverside High School, we graduated together, class of 1968. I was so saddened to hear of her passing and I wanted to send my prayers, sympathy and thoughts to her family.
Rest in Peace, God Bless You, Joyce!

Joyce and I were childhood friends. I was 6 yrs old and she was 10 yrs old. She had the best
Barbie dolls! She and I would play across the road at my uncles’ car lot, pretending to “drive”
the old cars. There was a little restaurant called the Rite Spot and we would go in to see
Peg and Al , the owners. They would give us a little treat and we would be on our way.
When Shug Ricketts would take the horse and buggy out for a ride, we would always ask him
if we could ride. We would visit Harriet Kiple and dance on the front porch with the girls.
    What wonderful memories!
I am so very sorry for your loss. Rest in peace dear friend.
