Harry T. Potts, Jr.

Harry T. Potts, Jr. “Tommy” “Pottsy”, beloved husband, father, and grandfather of 3, Tom unexpectedly passed away from this life on August 31, 2013, in his 75th year, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in the presence of his wife and children. Tom was retired from Public Service Electric & Gas Co., Moorestown, where he worked for 42 years. For the things in his life he was most fond of, his dedication was always apparent. Born and raised in Riverside, he was a devout member of the Riverside Fire Department for 54 years. Although he put himself in jeopardy countless times to serve his community, he was passionate about fire fighting.
On a personal note, Tom’s family was his pride and joy. Tom wanted the very best for his wife and children. He loved, cherished, and treasured his 3 granddaughters who were his world. Nothing made him happier than spoiling them, spending the family vacations on Long Beach Island, and watching them swim in “Pop’s Pool.” Quiet in his ways, Tom was a man of his word and had a voice of reason to those in need. He enjoyed gardening at his home in Delran and was always up for a hunting or a fishing trip during his younger years. In addition, he looked forward to attending the duck and decoy show as well as car shows.
In his early years, Tom was introduced to a girl named Carol (nee Lindley) at a dance at the Riverside Fire Station. They were wed in 1965. Together, their lives were blessed by their children: Krista Potts Wallace of Moorestown and Tom (Sharon) of Delran and again by their granddaughters: Julia, Gianna and Olivia. Tom is also survived by his sister, Margaret “Peg” Hansen (the late Harry Hansen) of Florence, his brother Gregory Potts of Riverside, his brother-in-law John “Jack” Errickson (the late Barbara) of Long Beach Island as well as by a host of nieces and nephews.
Come celebrate Tom’s 75 wonderful years (Feb. 25, 1938-Aug. 31, 2013) Wednesday from 6-9 PM and Thursday from 9-10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM Thursday at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church (St. Peter’s Site), Riverside. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Jefferson Hospital MICU c/o Jim Hazlett, Nurse Manager 111 South 11th St., Philadelphia, PA 19107.

So sad to hear of this…so sad for my dear cousin and her family. I will always remember my “Uncle” Tom as a quiet man with a dry sense of humor. He was very good to his wife Carol (my cousin) and all his children and grandchildren. An honest and fair man. Riverside and it’s Fire Department also suffers from this loss. Rest in peace Tom, I will never forget you.

To Carol and Family, I was sickened to hear of Tommy’s passing. He was a good man and such a wonderful friend to Jody. I’ll always remember his dry wit. God rest his soul and be with you and your children and grandchildren. With Sincere sympathy and love, Peggy and Ronnie

Carol, I am shocked and saddened by the passing of Tommy. Although I did not know him all that well, I grew up with you and I know in order to be a part of your life, he
had to be all the great things we hear. He was a great supporter of his family and his passing will leave a big hole in your life. Be strong and remember all the good times you two had through the years. His job here is done. With my most heartfelt love and support, Jennifer Harding.

Dear Carol, and her wonderful family. It seems like yesterday that I introduced my “young friend” to a St. Peter’s classmate… Tommy. We have shared much laughter and many tears since that day, but, always remained the best of friends. Time can steal our future, but can’t erase our memories. Tommy was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, and fireman, he can be proud of the family he leaves behind. Stay strong, and GOD BLESS.

    Lynn
