Ethel Field

Ethel Field

Although being an Aunt allowed Ethel to give hugs like a mother, keep secrets like a sister and share love like a friend, she was so much more. She was the type of person that could make any situation fun. To call her a raconteur would be an understatement; it was guaranteed that her stories would have you in stitches, even if you didn’t know the people in them. When the nieces and nephews would visit her home in Barnegat she loved to take them crabbing and usually had a gift in hand for them. Sometimes she’d knit a beautiful keepsake for their homes, other times it would be something as out of the ordinary as a muumuu, but it was always the thought that counted. Ethel loved to socialize. Whenever there was a group of friends and family and a highball or two you could always count her in.
Ethel was the wife of Joseph Field, who passed away in 1980. She is survived by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Buddy Merrill and her sisters, Eleanor Doody and Elizabeth Daly.
Come celebrate Ethel’s 93 wonderful years (May 10, 1920-Aug. 31, 2013) Thursday from 7-9 PM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Burlington will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Popcorn Park Zoo 1 Humane Way, PO Box 43 Forked River, NJ 08731.
