Elmer N. Woodington

By Clarence Oddbody’s criteria that “no man is a failure who has friends” Elmer’s success could never be doubted. His hunting trailer in Chatsworth served as a testament to this. It was usually filled with friends either joining him in the hunt, or just stopping by to say hi. And while he did love the outdoors, often heading off to go fishing or hunting and even serving as chairman of the family’s hunting club, “Camp Buckshot”, it was always more about the camaraderie with his sons and grandsons. But his family ties were not bound by bloodlines. He was known as “Pop” to just about everyone in the area. Once he was home, though, he was content to stay put. He would always rather watch the Phillies and enjoy a beer than head out for a night on the town. rn Elmer is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley (nee Everham) of Delran, his children: Norman “Glenn” (Joyce) of Mt. Holly, Gary (Karen) of Burlington, Linda Gilbert (Bob) of Delran, Greg (Cynthia Brown) of Manahawkin and Gordon (Robin) of Mt. Ephraim as well as by his 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren the many people who called him “Pop”, his siblings: Alice Faulker, Joan Goldy, Phillip and Robert Woodington and he was predeceased by his brother Victor. rn Come celebrate Elmer’s 82 cantankerous years (Nov. 4, 1929-Dec. 18, 2011) Thursday from 4 PM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at 5:30.
