Elizabeth D Daly

(Dec 11, 1929 to Oct 6, 2012)

If it’s true that the purity of a person’s heart can be quickly measured by how they regard animals then Elizabeth was the purist of all. Her farm in Edgewater Park wasn’t complete without a multitude of animals. Goats, chickens, dogs and especially horses found their home there. But, more than just livestock she cared for them with more passion than the most seasoned of veterinarians. Animals that weren’t tame soon became domesticated by her; she was known to give shelter to squirrels and even raccoons that had lost their way. rnBut her love for these creatures was always outshined by the way she cared for the people in her life. She did every task necessary to keep a happy home; moving logs, cleaning fish and skinning deer and moose were all in a day’s work. If she heard a neighbor had fallen on hard times she was the first on their doorstep with a warm meal. When tragedy struck her own family, she thought nothing of re-arranging her life to raise three of her grandchildren, Jim, Kelly and Becky as her own. rnBut, what made her happiest was simple pleasures. A sunny day was best accompanied by a fishing pole. Sunday mornings found her dancing in her living room to Elvis. And come Sunday evening she’d have prepared a feast fit for a king. When cooking nothing ever came prepackaged or frozen, most ingredients came directly from her farm. That may very well be why her potato salad and vegetable soup have never been matched. rnBefore his passing in 2011, Elizabeth was married to the late Joseph Daly for 61 years, with whom she ran the Beverly News Agency in Beverly from 1948 to 1963. Prior to her retirement she also worked for the Chamberlain Ammunition Plant during WWII, the Edgewater Park McDonald’s and the Beverly City School. She is the mother of Susan Matthews (Richard) of Beverly, Brian of Edgewater Park, Michael (Janet) of Florida and the late Jim and Cindy Daly. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, her sister Ethel Field of Barnegat, her sister-in-law Alvina Phillips of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. rnCome celebrate Elizabeth’s 82 caring years (Dec. 11, 1929-Oct. 6, 2012) Friday from 8-10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home 478 Cooper St., Beverly. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church (St. Joseph’s Site) Beverly. Interment Monument Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital PO Box 2151 Memphis, TN 38101. rn
