Edward Jurimas

If it’s true that a hero dedicates his life to something larger than himself, then Ed’s life is a shinning example. When enlisting with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, he may not have known it, but he had a rendezvous with history. He defended his nation at the Battle of the Bulge, and would eventually storm Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest. Returning home, he shifted his focus to his community. Exchanging his greens for blues and reds, he served on the Special Branch of the Delran Police Force, and was a life member of the Delran Fire Company Number 2. With compassion for more than just people, he had more than a soft spot for animals. His house was never complete without a pet, and as his goose could contend, any stray that crossed his path found a home. Always with a social side, he could often be found at the Polish-American Club or the VFW, enjoying some polka music, and rooting for his beloved Colts.rnrn Originally from Philadelphia, a young woman named Caroline (nee Zalinski) attracted him to Delran. They were married until she passed in 1996. He is survived by his sister-in-law Ruth Jurimas-Wentworth of Delran, and many nieces and nephews.rnrn Come celebrate 87 wonderful years (July 12, 1922 – Feb. 10, 2010) Tuesday from 10 Am at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at Noon. Interment Beverly National Cemetery. Always proud of his nephew’s missionary work, Ed would no doubt prefer memorial gifts to the New Tribes Mission, specifying his namesake, Edward Jurimas, 1000 E. 1st St., Stanford, FL 32771-1487.rnrn rn
