Edna Nesbitt

Edna Nesbitt

Regardless of where she was or what she was doing, Edna always brought a happy go lucky attitude to all of her endeavors. Most recently, as a crossing guard in her home town of Riverside, she knew just about everyone that drove by Bridgeboro and Washington Streets, and had a smile and wave ready for all of them. She moved to the area in 1995 and worked with her sister, Norma, in the Riverside School until 2005. Prior to that she worked for, and retired from GE and she had even served in the Air Force. The one constant at them all; Edna was never at a loss for words. She was ready to spark up a conversation with anyone, anywhere at any time.
Edna is survived by her sisters, Grace Lallo of Delran and Norma Copes (Beverly) of Riverside, her brother, William of PA as well as by her nieces and nephews.
Come celebrate Edna’s 79 wonderful years (Sept. 15, 1934 – Nov. 18, 2013) on Saturday from 9 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at 10:30. Interment to follow at Monument Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Riverside Public Library Association 10 Zurbrugg Way Riverside, NJ 08075.

Edna will always be remembered for her infectious smile and wave. There was never a time when she
didn’t put a smile on my face when I was driving the bus or in my car and some days that’s all I needed.
There won’t be a time when I drive by Bridgeboro & Washington that I won’t think of her.
Thanks for the memories and you will be missed by many!

To the family of Edna, I am so sorry for your loss. I first new Edna through the library where she worked and was also a volunteer. Edna was always cheerful and helpful. She loved to talk about Riverside. I also saw her a lot as a crossing guard because my husband and I are walkers. She always had something pleasant to say as we walked by. She loved her new crossing position since she got to see so many children. Many people tooted as they drove by and she joked at how much her arm hurt from waving. She will be missed by many.

I first met Edna when I served on the Library Board of Directors. She was a wonderful dedicated worker and just so pleasant to be with. She always had a friendly smile and when she became a crossing guard I still had the pleasure of her greetings and humor when our paths crossed. My condolences to her family. She will be missed by many and my prayers are with you.
