Charles “Butch” Slaughter

Charles “Butch” Slaughter

His parents named him Charles but his nickname was Butch; it meshed nicely with his ornery personality. With his outgoing personality he could talk easily with just about anyone. Of course he loved talking even more if he could ruffle some feathers. He loved a party and was the last to leave. He’d entertain with card and Yo Yo tricks he learned as a child. Butch needed to keep busy: he did woodworking, fussed in his yard, built a gazebo and manicured his lawn. When he retired Butch took up fresh water fishing and purchased just about every piece of equipment he could put his hands on. Butch was a big man who could intimidate people but much preferred to settle an argument. He was proud to be a Teamster. In his youth in Glendora he was a star catcher in the Babe Ruth League.

When his first wife, Mary Mullen, died Butch ventured into cooking and baking; his Email was “Baker Butch”. He made a perfect cheesecake and Jewish apple cake. Of course if they weren’t perfect they got thrown away and he’d started again.
Butch played cards and chess to win. If a grandchild wanted to beat him they had to work for it.
His investment in an Ipad got him more than some games to play. On the internet he’d meet Karen Miller, his second wife. In addition to Karen, Butch is survived by his children, Suzy (Jim) Bowser and Diane (Dallas) Dare, sisters, Edith Rudderow and Helen Steffen, and 4 grandchildren.
Come celebrate 67 great years, Tuesday July 22 from 6 to 7:30 pm at Daley Life Celebration Studio, 1518 Kings Hwy., Swedesboro where Storytime will begin at 7:30 pm.
Donations in memory of Butch may be made to Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice of N.E. PA, Regional Hospital, 746 Jefferson Ave, Scranton PA 18510, Attn: Donations

Butch was my uncle and was married to my Mom’s sister. He was so fun to be around and it was a pleasure to hang out with him at a family gathering. He was a great husband and father and his daughter Suzy looks so much like him. A great memory of Uncle Butch was when his family threw a surprise 60th birthday party and the extended family were all together and we all had a great time in his honor. He will be missed by us all.
