Catherine M. Rhoad

Ninety percent of the work is done by ten percent of the people. Catherine was that ten percent. She volunteered at Kings Things, gave her time to St. Joseph’s Church in the rectory, sang in the choir and spent a lifetime supporting the fire fighting community. But everyone knew that her family was her top priority. Tough but fair as a mom, if you didn’t heed her wagging finger you’d be ducking a shoe. Sundays found her gathering her flock back to her home: the boys would watch football, the girls would solve the world’s problems. Friday nights were for breaking bread with her tight knit friends from Logan Twp. In her earlier years she worked as an executive secretary for Boeing in Ridley Park. She was originally from Southwest Philly, raised her family in Sharon Hill and eventually found her way across the Cmdr. Barry to Logan Twp.

She’d meet a handsome guy named Richard at a graduation party. The West Catholic girl would marry the West Catholic boy. Catherine’s love and devotion to the late Richard never diminished. They were blessed with 5 children: Kate Fagan (Marty), Richard Jr. (Dawn), Frank (Teresa), Steve (Joann) and Susan Saunders (Mike). Her face would light up at the sight of her 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Come celebrate 83 great years Tuesday 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Daley Life Celebration Studio, Swedesboro. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Donations to St. Joseph’s Organ Restoration Fund, 140 Broad Street, Swedesboro will be appreciated.

I never met Catherine, but Sue it sounds like your mother lived a very full devout life between family, community and church. May God be with her and all family. Cora Hunter
