Pauline Chau

Pauline Chau, 98, went home to the Lord on October 21, 2025

She worked as a clerk, a seamstress, and for a time owned her own corner grocery in Philly. She raised three children, was plugged into her community, and always looked out for the wellbeing of friends and family.

Born in Hong Kong, she came to America at the end of WWII and became a US citizen shortly thereafter. Her father was her sponsor. When Pauline was two years old, her father emigrated to New York and established a successful grocery store in Chinatown. Four generations later, the family is full of engineers and lawyers and teachers – all contributing to their community and wanting to do just a little bit better for their kids.

Pauline loved gardening, tai chi, travel, good food, and good conversation. Mostly though, she loved a party. She was always happiest when surrounded by friends and family celebrating birthdays or Christmas or Chinese New Year. Her joy for life and sense of adventure will be missed, but we’d all do well to follow her example.

She was preceded in glory by Henry, her husband of 59 years. She is survived by her three children: Rochelle Lam, Bill Chau, and Sandy Cunningham (Matt), eight grandchildren, Christopher (Kristin), Melissa, Elizabeth (Ethan), Deborah (Drew), Sarah (Sam), Jack, Patrick, and Michael and ten great-grandchildren: David, Malea, Hayden, Macy, Davis, Evelyn, Irene, Renee, Lily, & Samuel.

Come celebrate 98 great years Saturday October 25, 9-11 a.m. at Fellowship Bible Church, 590 Jackson Road, Sewell NJ where there will be an 11 a.m. service. Interment to follow at Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro as well as a luncheon at the church.  In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude Hospital (stjude.org) or to Fellowship Bible Church will be appreciated.
