Antonietta Dowdy

Antonietta Dowdy

Antonietta Dowdy was born in Il Sarno, Salerno, Italy and immigrated to Brooklyn, NY as a young girl. She was as proud of her American citizenship as she was of her Italian heritage. Her early experiences shaped a life marked by hard work, reliability, and commitment to her family.

Throughout her life, she worked in a variety of demanding jobs—babysitting, factory work, and later as a school janitor on night shifts. She never complained and never avoided difficult work; she simply did what was needed to support her family and give her children opportunities.

She loved reading romance novels, gardening, watching action movies (preferably with Chuck Norris) and endless hours of the Game Show Network. She also enjoyed cooking, especially Italian cuisine, and her treasured Christmas cookies.

Family was central to her life. She attended every game, performance, or event her children and grandchildren took part in. She taught her family the value of hard work and responsibility.

She will be missed and remembered with love.

Antonietta is predeceased by her father Luigi Laudisio; her mother Rosa Cuomo; her sisters Rae Rota and Nina Pocius; and her grandson Roman Dowdy.

She is survived by her husband Allen Dowdy; her brothers Matteo, Luigi, and Prisco Laudisio; her daughters Rose Conrey, Tonie Murphy, and Melissa Caine; her son Allen Dowdy and his wife Siobhan; and her grandchildren Courtney, Jimmy, Kayla, Taylor, Ryan, Isabella, Harrison, Maria, and Pierce.

Come celebrate 77 great years on Saturday February 21st from 11am to 12:30pm where there will be a 12:30pm service at Sweeney Funeral Home Beverly, 478 Cooper Street, Beverly.
